Lettermen Lounge: Good news on the way for Ohio State on the recruiting trail?
COLUMBUS — Welcome to the New Year, Ohio State.
The Buckeyes enter the first weekend of 2024 with an opportunity to welcome not one, but two new committed prospects to their 2025 class. That’s exactly where the conversation in the first episode of the Lettermen Lounge in 2024 takes place.
Co-hosts Spencer Holbrook and Matt Parker, after an exchange of pleasantries, set the conversation in San Antonio, Texas, at the All-American Bowl. Ohio State is well represented with Jeremiah Smith, Eddrick Houston, Ian Moore, Garrett Stover and James Peoples performing in the prestigious game.
But it’s what’s happening during the game that will have the attention of Buckeye fans. Two commitment ceremonies are scheduled to take place for 2025 prospects that are massive Ohio State targets.
Five-star Houston (Texas) North Shore cornerback Devin Sanchez and four-star Chicago (Ill) Simeon EDGE Christopher Burgess will announce their commitments on Saturday.
Sanchez is the No. 8 overall prospect, the No. 2 cornerback and the No. 2 Texas prospect according to On3. He has a top three of Ohio State, Alabama and Texas A&M.
Burgess is the No. 129 overall prospect, the No. 8 EDGE and the No. 3 Illinois prospect according to On3. He has a top four of Ohio State, Notre Dame, Michigan and Alabama.

As of now, the latest intel points toward the Buckeyes landing one of the two and that one being Sanchez. Ohio State cornerback coach Tim Walton has put in some long hours on the recruiting trail pitching the Buckeyes to Sanchez and his family. Sanchez visited Ohio State in June for a day camp and had a workout with Walton inside the Woody. He then made his debut game-day visit on Oct. 21 for the Ohio State-Penn State game.
As for Burgess, his recruitment is a battle between Ohio State and Notre Dame. The Irish have done an excellent job with Burgess and made him a priority early on in his recruitment. Notably, his recruitment has been led by Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman. Ohio State, however, had head coach Ryan Day involved in the recruitment throughout the summer, but he became a big fixture in late November.
Burgess was on campus for the Nov. 18 game against Minnesota. But he also saw the Buckeyes on the road against Notre Dame and Michigan. Seeing the Buckeyes’ defensive line three times — two of which in different settings — was a unique look for Burgess.
