Four-star safety Faheem Delane commits to Ohio State
COLUMBUS — The commitments keep on rolling for Ohio State.
Four-star Olney (Md) Good Counsel safety Faheem Delane has committed to the Buckeyes. Delane picked Ohio State over a number of schools including Oregon, Alabama, LSU, Virginia Tech, Texas, Maryland and more.
Delane is the No. 44 overall prospect, the No. 3 safety and the No. 1 Maryland prospect according to the On3 Industry Rankings. Those numbers adjust to No. 88, No. 9 and No. 2 by On3’s own rankings.
The 6-foot-1.5, 210-pound prospect has long been the Buckeyes’ top priority at the position. It’s a recruitment that Ohio State started at the tail end of 2022. Led by former safety coach Perry Eliano, the Buckeyes wedged themselves nicely in the mix for Delane early. Even when Ohio State did not retain Eliano, new safeties coach Matt Guerierri kept the relationship rolling.
Delane has visited campus six times, most recently for his official visit this weekend.
“Every time I am there it feels like a reunion with me and the coaches,” Delane told On3. “It’s all love and the atmosphere is like no other. The fans bring that juice, especially this time with it being their only night game. I can’t compare it to any other game I have been to.
“They are one of my frontrunners. Their defense is a safety-driven defense, which means I have the opportunity to play early.”
Delane is the first safety committed to the Buckeyes’ second-ranked 2025 class. He is not the first defensive back, however. There are a pair of five-star cornerbacks in the Ohio State class with Na’eem Offord and Devin Sanchez. Four-star Wayne (N.J.) DePaul Catholic safety DeShawn Stewart and three-star Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius safety Cody Haddad are also in the class.
