Ohio State defensive lineman signee Jason Moore named Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year
COLUMBUS — Jason Moore knows what he is getting himself into by going to Ohio State.
And the Buckeyes know what they’re getting in a talented, bruising defensive lineman like Moore.
He continued a legacy of disruptive defensive ends at the historic DeMatha Catholic High School, and his efforts earned him a highly-coveted award.
The Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year.
Moore has only begun to write his story as a defensive lineman, but there’s a long enough prologue that it could be a book of its own. The 6-foot-6, 260-pound played against some of the country’s best talent in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference.
He week in and week out, played against teams like Gonzaga, Good Counsel and St. Johns. Along the way, he finished as a two-time WACA runner-up and a bunch of other awards.
All pale in comparison, however, to Gatorade Player of the Year.
Lettermen Row visited with Moore back in November 2022 where the No. 5 defensive lineman in the On3 Consensus laid out the expectation for him once he arrives at Ohio State.
“Really, it’s to just come in and work,” Moore told Lettermen Row. “I’ll see how my body turns out before the season in August and just work, just work, just work.”

Moore is one of four defensive line signees in the Buckeyes’ 2023 class. He’s joined by Will Smith Jr., Kayden McDonald and Joshua Mickens.
It may not be the biggest group by numbers, but it is an extremely talented crew with the same mission.
Work.
That’s exactly what Jason Moore has done from the moment he stepped through the doors at DeMatha Catholic as a freshman. He hasn’t missed a workout or a practice, and that work ethic is what got him to Ohio State.
It’s also what earned him the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year.
