Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith headlines critical visit weekend for Buckeyes
COLUMBUS — Ohio State has its home opener this Saturday against in-state opponent Youngstown State. That of course should be a win on the field for the Buckeyes, but they also need to win off the field as well.
Plenty of committed prospects are making their way toward campus this weekend as well as a few targets in the 2025 cycle. While the game isn’t the biggest one on the schedule this season it will be important.
And that’s where the latest episode of the Lettermen Lounge begins.
Hosts Spencer Holbrook and Matt Parker don’t waste any time diving into the Buckeyes’ expected visitors this weekend. It all starts with five-star Hollywood (Fla) Chaminade-Madonna wide receiver and Ohio State commit Jeremiah Smith. Smith, the No. 1 overall prospect in the On3 Industry Rankings, returns to Ohio State for the first time since the spring game back on April 15. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound wide receiver has made his rounds at in-state programs like Florida State, Florida and Miami. He recently was at the Seminoles season opener in Orlando against LSU.
There was heavy speculation that Smith would stay home this weekend and attend the Hurricanes’ game against Texas A&M, but that was quickly squashed Tuesday.
And it’s significant that Smith would rather be in Columbus for this game rather than Coral Gables.
Smith is not the only highly-rated commit expected in the Horseshoe, however. In-state cornerback duo Aaron Scott Jr. and Bryce West both have told Lettermen Row they will be there. As well as running back Sam Williams-Dixon, linebacker Garrett Stover and 2025 quarterback Tavien St. Clair.
The Buckeyes’ marquee recruiting weekend isn’t until Oct. 21 when they host Penn State. There is one big target heading to campus this weekend. 2025 four-star Cleveland (Ohio) Heights running back Marquise Davis will head the two hours south to campus.

Davis has been a mainstay at Ohio State and recently was there during summer recruiting camps. This will be his eleventh visit to campus.
Lettermen Row is still piecing together names for the Buckeyes’ home opener but all of the aforementioned prospects are significant.
The crew quickly dove into a few other topics, namely what is left for Ohio State on the recruiting trail. Elite offensive tackles Brandon Baker and Jordan Seaton remain uncommitted and are still on the board for head coach Ryan Day, offensive coordinator Brian Hartline and offensive line coach Justin Frye. Seaton will visit Ohio State this October in an official capacity. Baker visited in June and it isn’t likely he returns this fall.
