Ohio State wide receiver commit Jeremiah Smith earns fifth-star
COLUMBUS — Jeremiah Smith exploded onto the recruiting scene the moment he stepped onto a middle school football field.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound wide receiver and Ohio State commit torched opposing defenses in South Florida last fall for Chaminade-Madonna. Now he’s doing it all over again on the 7-on-7 circuit with his team, South Florida Express.
In the newest On300, Jeremiah Smith finally earned his fifth star by On3 and as such, he now is a Five-Star Plus+ prospect. A Five-Star Plus+ prospect is when an individual is considered a five-star by all four of the major recruiting services: On3, 247 Sports, Rivals and ESPN.
He also checked in as the No. 3 overall prospect and remained the top-rated wide receiver in the country.
Lettermen Row quickly runs through what makes the elite prospect so special and where Ohio State goes with his commitment in the wide receiver room.
No one does it better
That heading may seem like an opinion, but, he is the top-rated wide receiver for a reason.
Smith had some viral moments throughout the Lions’ season this fall. Whether it was ridiculous circus catches or impressive and physical blocks, Smith is the premier wide receiver in the 2024 cycle.
He totaled 1,073 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns on 58 receptions — good for 82.5 yards per game.
Given his frame, the most impressive thing about Smith is his catch radius and ability to high-point the ball before any defensive back has a chance. He’s the complete package and wide receiver coach Brian Hartline recognized that early on in Smith’s football journey.

The Buckeyes’ wide receiver factory is in good hands with Smith. He will join Ohio State at the same time when assumedly Marvin Harrison Jr, Emeka Egbuka and more depart from the room. It’s hard to compete as a true freshman in that room on that team, but if one prospect can do it, it’s Smith.
On3 is in the process of updating scouting reports, but Smith’s doesn’t have much difference based off his junior tape.
Big, skilled receiver with fluidity and savvy for the position. Measured in at 6-foot-3, 185 pounds prior to his junior season. Had a breakout 2021 season, helping his Chaminade-Madonna team to a state championship. Turned in several strong performances, including a big state title game. Polished route-runner at this early stage. Smooth mover with some technical refinement that allows for separation. Shows good ball skills with his ability to track the football over his shoulder. Does not register as a top athlete in the combine setting at this stage. Can further take advantage of his size by continuing to improve his contested catch skills.

Who joins him?
Jeremiah Smith was the first — and most important — domino for Hartline and the Buckeyes to fall. But who joins him?
Ohio State is pushing for a number of targets including Joshisa Trader, Micah Hudson, Mylan Graham, Terrance Moore, Jeremiah McClellan and more.
The Buckeyes took four wide receivers in the 2023 cycle and with the expected mass exodus after this coming season, they will look to load up again in 2024.
