COLUMBUS — Ohio State missed out on a scholarship running back in its 2023 class, and it’s hoping it won’t follow that in 2024.
The Buckeyes took another step to insure that as they offered four-star Fort Lauderdale (Fla) St. Thomas Aquinas running back Jordan Lyle.
Lyle is the No. 9 running back in the 2024 cycle and the No. 98 overall prospect per On3.
He is a 5-foot-11, 190-pound back and posted an impressive stat line at the renowned St. Thomas Aquinas. Lyle ran for 1,015 yards and 12 touchdowns on 91 carries. He also had six catches for 55 yards.
Lyle now holds 21 FBS offers and that includes schools like Penn State, Miami and Georgia.
Ohio State has now offered 10 running backs in the 2024 cycle with the front runners being four-star Tampa (Fla) Wharton talent Stacy Gage and four-star Cincinnati (Ohio) Archbishop Moeller standout Jordan Marshall.
The Buckeyes return four scholarship backs for 2023: Miyan Williams, TreVeyon Henderson, Evan Pryor and Dallan Hayden. Hybrid running back/linebacker Chip Trayanum and the Buckeyes’ do-it-all offensive weapon Xavier Johnson also took snaps at running back in 2022.

As mentioned, Ohio State did not bring in a scholarship running back in its 2023 class. But it did add a widely-recruited prospect as a preferred walk-on in three-star Massillon (Ohio) talent Willtrell Hartson.
On3 Director of Scouting Charles Power had this to say about the Buckeyes’ newest running back offer in a story by Penn State recruiting analyst, Ryan Snyder.
“I didn’t focus on the running backs as much, but I have seen him some. Generally speaking, I think he’s pretty advanced technically. His feet are pretty impressive. The biggest thing was really just getting more opportunities to showcase that at a school like St. Thomas Aquinas. They play tough competition, they’re well-coached, all of that. He’s really shown what he can do this year.“
Ohio State will definitely take a running back in the 2024 cycle. And it might just be its newest offer Jordan Lyle.
