Fast-rising safety prospect Leroy Roker commits to Ohio State
COLUMBUS — Ohio State has found another defensive prospect that has flown under the radar and it wasted no time in getting him.
Leroy Roker has committed to the Buckeyes.
The three-star Fort Myers (Fla) Bishop Verot safety chose the Buckeyes after making his debut visit to campus for the Maryland game. Roker at 6-foot-1, 170 pounds is evaluated for the free safety spot in the Buckeyes’ 4-2-5 system.
He is a bit of a late bloomer and that’s been a trend for Ohio State to find and land in these last few recruiting cycles. Roker went from mostly unknown and then the offers slowly but surely trickled in. Iowa was the first Power 5 program that offered him and that was in August.
Ohio State followed up and offered Roker the first week of October. Nearby Miami followed three days later.
A few Lettermen Row sources inside the Woody Hayes Athletic Center mentioned that Roker’s official visit went “great” and it clearly did as he is now committed to Ohio State.
Ohio State now has two safeties in its 2024 class and is looking for one more to complete the haul.
The Class
Leroy Roker is commit No. 22 to the Buckeyes’ 2024 class. He is the tenth defensive prospect committed to the class and the second safety as well. He joins four-star West Orange (N.J.) Seton Hall Prep safety Jaylen McClain for position coach Perry Eliano.
The defensive backs are rounded out by a three-head monster at cornerback. Aaron Scott Jr., Bryce West and Miles Lockhart. The five defensive backs make up a very solid backend, but the front seven is pretty impressive as well.

Roker will practice against an elite offensive class to no surprise. Five-star wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Mylan Graham lead the way for the Buckeyes with high four-star Jeremiah McClellan right behind. Much like the cornerbacks, there is a three-headed monster at running back for the Buckeyes. James Peoples, Jordan Lyle and Sam Williams-Dixon make up the backfield.
Quarterback Air Noland is protected by tackles Ian Moore and Deontae Armstrong, and guard Devontae Armstrong. Tight ends Max LeBlanc and Damarion Witten round out the class for the Buckeyes.
