2024 punter Nick McLarty commits to Ohio State
COLUMBUS — Ohio State was finished with its 2024 class in February. Until now.
Nick McLarty announced his commitment to Ohio State only a few days after his debut visit to campus. The 6-foot-7, 255-pound punter from Melbourne, Australia, visited the Buckeyes both on Tuesday and Thursday.
Lettermen Row’s Alex Gleitman caught up with McLarty following his initial visit to Ohio State.
“I fondly enjoyed my visit today,” McLarty told Lettermen Row. “To be able to watch a program which is building towards a national championship is quite remarkable.”
“Other than pre-training meetings and going to training, I went to and had an in-person face-to-face conversation with Coach Day in his office,” he shared. “We had a really good, in-depth conversation about the team and the future of the program.”
Dependant upon conversations over the coming days with Coach Day and Coach (Rob) Keys (ST QC coach), a decision could be made,” he explained.
McLarty is a welcomed and needed addition to the Buckeyes roster for 2024. He joins Joe McGuire as the Buckeyes’ only other punter. Ohio State would have had longtime punter Jesse Mirco back for another season, but he transferred to Vanderbilt during the winter.
McLarty will be a serious candidate for the starting punting job once he arrives on campus this fall. He of course will have to earn the spot, but, it will be a battle to watch once August training camp rolls around.
