COLUMBUS — Ohio State is starting to see its recruiting efforts up front pay off.

The Buckeyes added four-star DeMatha Catholic (Fort Washington, Maryland) defensive end Jason Moore to the class on Sunday after the top-50 prospect announced his commitment on Twitter. Moore’s commitment gives Ohio State and defensive line coach Larry Johnson a massive win — a big enough victory that vault the Buckeyes’ class back into the No. 1 spot.

Ohio State is hopeful that it can solidify its front seven in the coming weeks. The Buckeyes will have an answer on Saturday from one of its top prospects in four-star Jesuit (Tampa, Florida) linebacker Troy Bowles.

Lettermen Row staffers Spencer Holbrook, Andrew Ellis and Matt Parker break down Jason Moore’s commitment to Ohio State and more on the latest edition of the newly-named Lettermen Lounge Podcast.

After a brief exchange of formalities, the trio dove into which was the bigger get for the Buckeyes: Jason Moore or three-star The Brunswick School (Greenwich, Connecticut) offensive tackle Miles Walker, who committed last Friday. Two of the staffers said Moore was the bigger get because of his top-50 status and his versatility, while one said Walker because of Ohio State’s need for a pure offensive tackle in the class.

Regardless, the two latest pledges to the Buckeyes and coach Ryan Day are important pieces to an intricate puzzle that’s shaping up to be this 2023 class.

Part of the intrigue is that the class is still without a committed quarterback. Ohio State remains in the mix for four-star Baylor commit Austin Novosad and had another potential option open up Tuesday night when four-star Ravenwood (Brentwood, Tennessee) quarterback Chris Parson decommitted from Florida State.

Lastly, the trio spoke about what position groups Day and his staff might need to focus on when looking at the 2024 class. Andrew and Matt also picked one prospect from the 2024 cycle that would be a marquee get for the Buckeyes.
