Ohio State quarterback commit Air Noland gives credit to Ryan Day, coaching staff
COLUMBUS — Ohio State went through trials and tribulations on the recruiting trail to find its legitimate and permanent quarterback in the 2024 cycle.
The Buckeyes got that with five-star Fairburn (Ga) Langston Hughes quarterback Air Noland, who committed to the scarlet and gray in early April. Noland is the No. 4 quarterback in the country according to On3 and the No. 3 quarterback in the On3 Industry Rankings.
There were a number of reasons why Ohio State and Noland ended up being the right combination. But the lefty from Georgia broke down why in a pre-recorded interview with ESPN’s Tom Luginbill. The interview aired during halftime of the Langston Hughes season opener against Carrollton.
“It all starts with the head coach [Ryan Day],” Noland said. “[He’s] known for producing great quarterbacks [and] got a chance to coach in the NFL. You got coach [Corey] Dennis, the quarterbacks’ coach, and coach [Brian] Hartline.
“Those two guys combined, I feel like it’s nowhere like that anywhere in the country. I feel like those three guys really pumped it up for me.”

Noland included Ohio State in his final seven schools in late winter, but he had not visited campus. He didn’t even hold an offer. But the 6-foot-2, 195-pound quarterback trusted the process and visited Ohio State where he also earned his offer in late March.
It only took eight days for Noland to announce his commitment to the Buckeyes.
It wasn’t just the coaching trio of Day, Hartline and Dennis that won out for Ohio State, however. Noland had a very solid inside look at the program through an old teammate of his.
“Jelani Thurman,” Noland continued. “He played with me last year, so you know, I knew a lot of people up there, a lot of familiar relationships.
The future Ohio State quarterback plans on being an early enrollee and will arrive in January.
