COLUMBUS — Ohio State recruiting certainly hasn’t slowed down now that the calendar has turned from one dead period to another.

The Buckeyes have fully embraced August with the balance of preseason training camp and recruiting as well. A number of targets either have decision dates set or are narrowing things down as senior seasons begin for the 2024 cycle.

In the latest episode of Lettermen Row’s recruiting podcast, the Lettermen Lounge, the latest conversation focuses on a few different names.

Hosts Spencer Holbrook and Matt Parker start with four-star St. Louis (Mo) Christian Brothers College wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan. The No. 22 wide receiver per On3 will announce his decision on Sunday. He has a final five of Ohio State, Missouri, Oregon, Georgia and LSU. Both hosts have a prediction in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for the Buckeyes to land the 5-foot-11, 190-pound wideout.

Ohio State has built a strong relationship with McClellan and his family, and certainly the coaching staff at his high school as former Buckeyes Kam Babb and Cameron Brown played at Christian Brothers.

Should McClellan commit to Ohio State on Sunday, it’s more likely than not that offensive coordinator and wide receiver coach Brian Hartline has concluded his 2024 haul. McClellan would join five-star Hollywood (Fla) Chaminade-Madonna Prep wideout Jeremiah Smith and five-star New Haven (Ind) wideout Mylan Graham in the class.

On the other side of the ball, the Buckeyes have positioned themselves as a legitimate contender for five-star Lafayette (La) Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley. The No. 4 defensive lineman in the 2024 cycle per On3 has only visited campus once, but in a recent report by On3’s Sam Spiegelman, Ohio State shouldn’t be taken lightly.

He has maintained lines of communication with each of his finalists, including Texas A&M and Ohio State, which are still very much alive in this race, according to sources well-versed in this recruitment. In fact, multiple people in McKinley’s circle believe the Buckeyes are “darkhorse contenders” with the elite DL, who took an official visit to Columbus on June 2-4 and quickly meshed with DL coach Larry Johnson.

McKinley will announce his decision on Sept. 1, just one day before the Buckeyes play Indiana.

Ohio State has one defensive lineman committed to the 2024 class: five-star Chicago (Ill) St. Ignatius star Justin Scott. The Buckeyes are also in contention for five-star Buford (Ga) defensive lineman Eddrick Houston.
