Ohio State offensive lineman Ryan Jacoby enters transfer portal
COLUMBUS – Ohio State offensive lineman Ryan Jacoby has entered the transfer portal.
The reserve offensive lineman who showed versatility and flashes of promise in his two seasons with the Buckeyes put his name in the transfer portal Monday afternoon, Lettermen Row confirmed Monday.
Jacoby, a former four-star recruit from in-state Mentor High School, entered the program as part of the class of 2019 as a player who could be developed into a factor along the offensive line, but that never materialized.
Ohio State is as deep as it ever has been on the offensive line, making it more difficult for Jacoby to push for a role on the field. He’ll transfer out of the program and have four years of eligibility left, three years and an extra year given to players by the NCAA last year because of the pandemic.
Although the NCAA now allows immediate eligibility for players who enter the transfer portal, Jacoby won’t be eligible to play this fall at the school he chooses. That deadline to become immediately eligible has already passed.
Jacoby was not present for the Buckeyes hotel check-in on Sunday in which the players arrived for their second week of fall training camp.

Even with the departure of Jacoby, Ohio State has plenty of depth to withstand the loss. But Jacoby was on his way to being a key part of the backup offensive line for the Buckeyes, and it’s still a loss the Buckeyes will need to work around up front.
“I think we have really good depth,” Day said this spring. “We have a good group in that room. I think Stud has done a really good job recruiting. We have different shapes and sizes, have some versatility in there. We have over 20 guys in that room with walk-ons and scholarship guys.
“We have to continue to develop some of the guys in there, and we’ve developed some guys into being good players. It’s fun to see where that’s headed this year, because I think we have a chance to have a really good room.”
Ryan Jacoby is no longer part of that depth. He entered the transfer portal after two-plus years with Ohio State.
