COLUMBUS — Ohio State is expected to return to a nine-game conference schedule next season.

The dates of all nine of those conference games — and the path to a fifth-straight conference crown — have been shuffled around and are now official.

The four-time reigning Big Ten champs will open conference play in Week One at Minnesota on a Thursday night, Sept. 2, before playing three nonconference games. That all remained the same from the original schedule. But most of the conference games have changed dates, otherwise.

Ohio State will travel to Rutgers on Oct. 2, a date that originally had the Buckeyes traveling to Nebraska. The road trip to Lincoln won’t happen until the first week of November. The high-anticipated home game against Penn State has also changed dates; the Buckeyes will now face the Nittany Lions on Oct. 30 instead of Nov. 20.

The good news for the Buckeyes? The off date remains the same for the national runners up. Ohio State will have a week off after taking on Maryland to prepare for a tough road trip to Indiana, which nearly upset Ohio State last season in Columbus.

Home games against Purdue and Michigan State were both slated to be in October, and those two clashes will now happen in the middle of November for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes. Of course, the road trip to Michigan, which will mark Ohio State’s second-straight edition of The Game in the Big House after the Wolverines couldn’t come to Columbus last season due to COVID-19 issues, will cap off the regular season.

Ohio State hasn’t lost a conference game since it was taken down by Purdue back in 2018. The Buckeyes officially know their path now to a fifth-consecutive Big Ten crown. It starts in Week One against a Big Ten West program, and it ends in Indianapolis.
