COLUMBUS — Ohio State coach Ryan Day said after the Cotton Bowl loss that everything in the program needed looked at. Quarterback appears to be at the top of that list.

The Buckeyes are acting quickly. They’re bringing in Kansas State transfer quarterback Will Howard for a visit later this week, Lettermen Row confirmed Wednesday morning. ESPN’s Pete Thamel was first to report the news.

Ohio State starter Kyle McCord entered the transfer portal last month before ultimately landing at Syracuse. And the Buckeyes have two unproven players on their roster, leading to the interest in Howard. That interest is clearly mutual.

Will Howard would have one year of eligibility remaining with the Buckeyes if he committed after playing four seasons with the Wildcats, including during the COVID-19 season. He started all 12 games for Kansas State this season, completing 61.3 percent of his passes for 2,643 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

He has 5,786 passing yards, 48 touchdowns and 25 interceptions in his career. He certainly would bring experience to an Ohio State quarterback room that is lacking it.

But he would also bring controversy in the room. Second-year quarterback Devin Brown started in the Cotton Bowl before exiting with an ankle injury. Freshman Lincoln Kienholz entered that game, which the Buckeyes ultimately lost to Missouri.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day said everything needed evaluated after the embarrassing loss to Missouri.

“Everything is going to get looked at,” Day said. “If it’s what helps Ohio State go reach our goals and win these games, then we’ll make those changes. So, got to really evaluate it the right way and make sure I’m doing it the right way and do what’s appropriate and best for the program.”

Now the quarterback position seems to be at the top of the list for Day and the Buckeyes. They’re bringing a potentially major addition to campus for a visit. Will Howard will be at Ohio State in the coming days.
