Jake Seibert: Top-ranked kicker commits to Ohio State
Ryan Day’s first full recruiting class at Ohio State needed a kicker. Fortunately for the Buckeyes, Jake Seibert lives right down the road in Cincinnati.
On Tuesday night, Seibert publicly committed to the Buckeyes, accepting an offer from them over scholarships from Michigan State, UCLA, Air Force and others. He informed the Ohio State coaching staff of his decision on Sunday afternoon.

“It’s a dream come true,” he told Lettermen Row. “The location is perfect. I can go home and come back the same day if needed. I was able to hang out with the players a lot [last weekend] and loved being around them.
“I come in next summer and go through the first semester on my dime. The rest is all fully-guaranteed. I am excited to start becoming a Buckeye.”
Just two weeks ago, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound kicker told Lettermen Row he’d have a difficult decision to make because the Buckeyes offer was different than the others. To pick Ohio State, he’d need to accept a grayshirt opportunity. He’d have to pay his own way for a semester at Ohio State, but not at other schools.

The Cincinnati La Salle standout, who is ChrisSailerKicking.com’s top-ranked kicker prospect in 2020, also wanted to return to campus to see how comfortable he felt in Columbus as a potential football player at Ohio State. He did that last weekend, and that visit helped make a tough decision easier as he wrapped up a process that was primarily led by Buckeyes special teams coordinator Matt Barnes.
“I’ve got a really tough decision to make,†Seibert previously told Lettermen Row. “I’m going to reach out to [Ohio State punter] Drue Chrisman and talk to him about grayshirting, because I know he did that too. That way I can get more of a feel for how that all works.â€
He got all the information he needed to make a choice, and now Jake Seibert is the 10th commitment in the 2020 class for Ohio State.
