Ohio State wide receiver Jameson Williams enters transfer portal
COLUMBUS — Arguably the deepest, most talented unit in the country has taken a hit: Ohio State wide receiver Jameson Williams has entered the transfer portal.
The speedy, field-stretching deep threat had yet to truly tap into his potential with the Buckeyes despite his impressive physical gifts, though he proved as a sophomore that he could be a weapon in the passing game by hauling in a pair of touchdowns.
Williams spent spring camp in a competition for a top role in the rotation at wideout, although the logjam of returning production combined with the influx of highly-touted underclassmen was potentially going to make it difficult for him to stand out for the Buckeyes. Now he’s ready to take his chances elsewhere.
“I feel like last season was a good season,” Williams said earlier this month. “I just feel like it was a good season overall — made plays, had a lot of fun and I feel like I got better as the season went along.
“This offseason I felt like I got a lot better also, just working on certain things and perfecting those certain things to become a full wide receiver.”

The Buckeyes have plenty of those on hand, and from that perspective it can potentially absorb the loss of Williams without really missing a beat.
But Williams did have natural gifts that certainly would have made him an asset to the passing game moving forward, particularly as he worked to fine-tune his route-running ability and become more reliable with his hands.
That next step for Jameson Williams will now need to happen elsewhere. The Buckeyes should still have more elite personnel and depth than any other program in the country at wide receiver, but it will have to prove that without Williams once training camp resumes in August.
