Brice Sensabaugh named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for second time

Ohio State freshman forward Brice Sensabaugh earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season Tuesday. Sensabaugh also received the accolade last week.

Sensabaugh leads the Buckeyes with 15.3 points per game. He has started all three games since Oklahoma State grad transfer Isaac Likekele took a leave to attend to a “family matter.”

Likekele’s return is still a “wait and see” situation.

Sensabaugh is coming off what’s arguably his most complete outing in a Buckeyes uniform so far. In addition to pouring in 19 points, he registered a season-high seven assists, not to mention his seven rebounds as well, in Ohio State’s runaway, 95-61 victory over Maine.

Sensabaugh is following in the footsteps of former Buckeyes star Malaki Branham, who reeled in back-to-back Big Ten Freshman of the Week awards in the beginning of last January.

What’s more, Sensabaugh is ninth in the country in points per game among freshmen this season.

Buckeyes keeping same game-week routine amid busy bowl experience schedule

Ohio State is in Atlanta preparing for the College Football Playoff semifinal against top-ranked Georgia. In the process, though, the Buckeyes are participating the traditional Peach Bowl festivities.

It’s a balance between fun and business Buckeyes players and coaches are looking to strike this week.

Ultimately, head coach Ryan Day’s team is in the Peach State to book its ticket to the National Championship. And, although the Peach Bowl activities — which have already included dance contests and rounds of trivia — provide a bit of a break, the Buckeyes are trying to not let the schedule throw them off.

“I think that’s why you have to keep as many things routine as possible because it is a little bit different,” Day said Monday. “There are some things that are not normal, like you said. So how many things can we possibly just keep the routine so that when guys are here at the hotel or over at the stadium, they can kind of visualize where things are and keep the routine the routine so they don’t have to really process too much there.

“And they can focus on getting on the field and doing a great job in their preparation and practicing.”
