Ohio State will be without its leading scorer and first-round NBA Draft prospect Friday against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals. Star freshman forward Brice Sensabaugh is sidelined with knee soreness.

Sensabaugh sat the final 3:17 of the 13th-seeded Buckeyes’ upset win over fifth-seeded Iowa Thursday. He still finished with 16 points and four rebounds, though.

“Brice just wasn’t feeling great,” head coach Chris Holtmann said postgame, when asked about Sensabaugh’s absence down the stretch versus the Hawkeyes.

“So that was part of the reason for that. Actually, kind of the reason for that.”

Sensabaugh — a member of the All-Big Ten Freshman Team and All-Big Ten Third Team — returned to double figures versus Iowa after turning in a stat line of nine points and 11 rebounds in Wednesday’s win over Wisconsin.

Although Sensabaugh’s scoring numbers have fluctuated a bit recently, he’s been a more complete player, averaging 6.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists over the last seven games. To put that in perspective, the Orlando native was averaging 4.0 rebounds and 0.9 assists the seven games before that.

Sensabaugh leads the Buckeyes with 16.3 points per game this season. He’s turned in 11 games with 20 or more points. There was a stretch of 13 straight contests earlier this year where he was the Buckeyes’ top scorer.

Sensabaugh is a projected first-round pick in this year’s NBA Draft. He has yet to announce his plans for next season.
