Buckeyes signee Colin White named 2024 Ohio Mr. Basketball

Just as last year’s Ohio Mr. Basketball, Devin Royal, continues his emergence as a standout forward at Ohio State, the Buckeyes will now welcome this year’s Ohio Mr. Basketball into the fold: Colin White.

The Ottawa-Glandorf High School star was recognized as such Wednesday by the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. Ohio State will now have 13 players in program history who have earned that honor.

White is a three-star prospect who ranks No. 6 in the state of Ohio this cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. But the 6-foot-6, 200-pound White has helped Ottawa-Glandorf reached the OHSAA state tournament all four years of his high school career. This time around, he has the Titans in a Division III state semifinal against Canal Winchester Harvest Prep at 5:15 p.m. Friday.

White grabbed first-team All-Ohio accolades as a sophomore and junior. He’ll likely add another first-team nod this season when those honors are announced next week.

That said, White has taken his game to another level this year. He’s averaging 24.9 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.6 steals a game this season.

He’s five points away from becoming the first Ottawa-Glandorf player and first Putnam County player to score at least 2,000 career points.

White chose Ohio State over Butler, Northwestern, Cincinnati and TCU. He recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Buckeyes after Jake Diebler was promoted to full-time head coach.

Ohio State now has three of the last four Ohio Mr. Basketball winners: White (2024), Royal (2023) and Malaki Branham (2021). Along with four-star Mt. Pleasant (Utah) Wasatch Academy guard Juni Mobley, White is one of two signees in the Buckeyes’ 2024 recruiting class, which ranks 40th nationally. They’ll join an Ohio State roster that, if retained, will bring significant experience from back-to-back top-10 classes.

Tim May: Buckeyes quarterback battle in spotlight, became main event at Pro Day

Seven players from Ohio State’s 2023 roster took part in the drilling part of Pro Day Wednesday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center: offensive lineman Matthew Jones, tight end Cade Stover, wide receiver Xavier Johnson, defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr., linebackers Tommy Eichenberg and Steele Chambers and safety Josh Proctor. Running back Miyan Williams completed the lifting portion of the workout. And, notably, Marvin Harrison Jr. didn’t participate at all yet was in attendance to support his teammates.

Harrison would have been the main event at this year’s Pro Day. Instead, it was the quarterbacks who were lending a hand to Pro Day-participating players. Will Howard and Devin Brown, competing for QB1 this offseason, were on full display as they threw routes on air.

Lettermen Row’s Tim May wrote about that mini showdown in front of NFL scouts.
