COLUMBUS — The 2023-24 Ohio State season is underway, but the Buckeyes also got a glimpse of the future Wednesday, National Signing Day.

Head coach Chris Holtmann and his staff signed a pair of 2024 prospects, John “Juni” Mobley and Colin White, both of whom have Ohio ties.

Lettermen Row has a rundown of what the newest Buckeyes bring to the table.

G Juni Mobley

On3 Industry Ranking: Four star, No. 48 overall, No. 13 SG, No. 1 Utah

High School: Wasatch Academy (Utah)

What to know: Mobley, the No. 42 overall prospect in the cycle and a four-star point guard prospect, was born in Rochester, New York, but lived in Reynoldsburg — a suburb of Columbus — from when he was 4 years old until the pandemic rolled around. That’s when he moved to Las Vegas, where he played at Bishop Gorman. Mobley has since transferred to Wasatch Academy in Mount Pleasant, Utah.

The ball-handling guard pledged to Ohio State in October 2022. He committed to Ohio State over Arizona State, Creighton, LSU, USC and Xavier.

G/F Colin White

On3 Industry Ranking: Three star, No. 192 overall, No. 42 SG, No. 6 Ohio

High School: Ottawa-Glandorf (Ohio)

What to know: White, the sixth-rated prospect in Ohio this cycle and a three-star wing prospect, impressed during Ohio State’s high school team camp in June, operating as a point forward, both as a facilitator and a scorer. He can attack the rim but has elevated his jumper, too.

When asked this summer to self-scout, White gave On3’s Joe Tipton some insight on what kind of player he is: “I am a tough two-way player that really takes pride in the defensive end but will really take advantage on the offensive side,” White said. “I can score in any way whether that is at the rim using my athleticism or shooting pull ups or threes. I have a variety of different ways to do things.”

White led Ottawa-Glandorf to the Division III state title game last season. He scored 18 points in that outing, albeit in a loss to Lutheran East. He was also part of a runner-up squad the year before. White committed to Ohio State in August. He chose the Buckeyes over Northwestern, Butler, Cincinnati and TCU.

Outlook

Ohio State signed a combined nine players in the previous two recruiting classes. This time around, the Buckeyes are in line for a smaller class. But they could still add to the group, which is currently ranked 37th nationally and seventh in the Big Ten, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. After all, Ohio State is a finalist for five-star plus+ center Jayden Quaintance, a Cleveland native who reclassified and is set to play his senior season at Word Of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina. Quaintance — listed at 6-foot-10, 225 pounds — is between Florida, Kentucky, Missouri and Ohio State. He’s the No. 2 center in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.
