Ohio State releases Week 1 travel roster, 10 true freshmen make the trip to Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Ohio State released its first travel roster of the season Saturday afternoon ahead of its Week 1 game at Indiana.
A total of 74 players made the trip to Bloomington for the Buckeyes’ season and Big Ten opener. That, most notably, includes 10 true freshmen:
- WR Brandon Inniss
- QB Lincoln Kienholz
- TE Jelani Thurman
- WR Carnell Tate
- LB/DE Arvell Reese
- CB Jermaine Mathews
- S Malik Hartford
- P Joe McGuire
- OL Luke Montgomery
- WR Noah Rogers
Some quick takeaways from that group:
Three of Ohio State’s four true freshmen wide receivers traveled: Inniss, Rogers and Tate all made the trip. The only first-year wideout not at Indiana this weekend is Bryson Rodgers, who, like the other three, also shed his black stripe this offseason. Inniss was the lone late arrival of the bunch but still traveled.
Ohio State brought four scholarship quarterbacks to Indiana: Ohio State head coach Ryan Day talked about how it was a luxury to have four scholarship quarterbacks this year. He’s making the most of that depth, bringing each of them to Indiana for the season opener. Both Kyle McCord — Saturday’s starter — and Devin Brown are expected to play against the Hoosiers. Seventh-year journeyman Tristan Gebbia is the projected third stringer and Kienholz, who joined the program this summer, is next.

Three Buckeyes defenders are well on their way: Hartford has been the talk of the town the last week. He could see significant time at free safety, or “adjuster,” against the Hoosiers. Mathews, who early enrolled like Hartford, made the trip as well. He’ll add depth at corner and can help the Buckeyes on special teams. So can Arvell Reese, a linebacker-turned-defensive end who has impressed since arriving on campus this summer.
