COLUMBUS — Ohio State offered Rhode Island transfer offensive tackle Ajani Cornelius Wednesday afternoon. Cornelius is coming off a strong 2022, in which he started all 11 of URI’s games at right tackle and earned first-team All-CAA honors in the process.
Cornelius was unranked out of Harlem (New York) Stepinac in the On3 Consensus. He originally committed to Howard before flipping to and signing with URI, where he started a total of 22 games at right tackle across the 2021 and 2022 seasons after sitting out his first two years on campus.
He allowed just one sack and six pressures this season while registering a 91.0 PFF run blocking grade. Cornelius was a big part of a Rams offense that posted the third-most points per game (30.6) in the CAA and ranked fourth in rushing yards per game (168.8) in 2022.
Cornelius has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
December calls for coaching staffs everywhere to juggle postseason preparation, NIL, the current recruiting cycle and, of course, the transfer portal. While the Buckeyes are gearing up for a Peach Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal against top-ranked Georgia, they’re simultaneously getting ready for life after the CFP.

Ohio State arguably has the best offensive tackle pairing in the country right now. Left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. and right tackle Dawand Jones are both destined for the NFL. Combined, that duo has allowed just one sack and 14 pressures this season, according to PFF.
They’re both getting trees in Buckeye Grove this offseason. Johnson is a consensus All-American, and Jones received first-team All-American recognition from both PFF and CBS Sports.
Ohio State has yet to reel in a transfer this cycle, although the Buckeyes have lost three players to the portal. To follow all of the program’s portal activity, check out Lettermen Row’s transfer tracker.
