Anthony Schlegel helping Ohio State strength staff during winter workouts
Ohio State football posted another video from winter workouts Thursday, and it wasn’t hard to pick out the voice of Anthony Schlegel, a former Buckeyes linebacker who previously served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the program from 2011-15.
Schlegel is back in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, and he’s helping Ohio State during winter workouts on an interim basis. He’s working under Mickey Marotti, the Buckeyes’ longtime head strength and conditioning coach.
Schlegel played for the Buckeyes from 2003-05. Before that, he started his college career at the Air Force Academy. At Ohio State, Schlegel ranked third on the team with 84 total tackles in 2004. He was second on the team with 82 total tackles the following year.
Then he was drafted in the third round by the New York Jets. His NFL playing career was short-lived, however. Schlegel was with the Jets in 2006 and the Cincinnati Bengals in 2007. From 2009-10, he played for the Florida Tuskers of the independent UFL.
He notably reunited with Urban Meyer in 2021 when Meyer was ever so briefly the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Meyer brought Schlegel aboard to be the Jaguars’ head strength and conditioning coach.
Now, Schlegel is back in the Woody helping Marotti during a pivotal Ohio State offseason. With the College Football Playoff expanding to 12 teams, a 16 or 17-game season is possible. Being in shape is more important than ever, and that’s where Schlegel comes in.
Schlegel started and runs The Difference USA, a football equipment company that was a brainchild of his that came to life after he earned his MBA from Ohio State in 2015.
