Ohio State climbs rung in Week 7 AP Top 25

COLUMBUS — Ohio State is back to where it started in this year’s AP Top 25: No. 3. The Buckeyes moved up in the poll for the second time in three weeks, taking the place of previously undefeated Texas in the third spot, behind No. 1 Georgia and No. 2 Michigan. Florida State rounds out the top four.
After losing several first-place votes last week, Georgia is back in complete control with a poll-leading 50 first-place nods ahead of Week 7. Next is Michigan (11) and then Ohio State (1) and FSU (1).
The biggest winner this week is Oklahoma, which rose from No. 12 to No. 5 after defeating now-No. 9 Texas, 34-30, in the Red River Showdown.
Louisville, notably, jumped 11 spots from No. 25 to No. 14. The Cardinals, now 6-0 under new head coach Jeff Brohm, beat Notre Dame, 33-20. The Fighting Irish, on the other hand, dropped again, falling to No. 21.
The Buckeyes are coming off a 37-17 win over Maryland, which came into the matchup having started 5-0 for the first time since 2001. Ohio State’s offense didn’t hit its stride until the second half, but the Buckeyes’ defense stepped up during the first two quarters of action — safety Josh Proctor even recorded Ohio State’s third defensive touchdown of the season with a 24-yard pick-six.
