Ohio State reels in Arizona State transfer long snapper
Ohio State added its first transfer of the cycle Saturday with the commitment of Arizona State long snapper John Ferlmann, who appeared in 12 games for the Sun Devils this season.
Ferlmann — a Phoenix, Arizona, native — was a five-star prospect at Boulder Creek High School, according to Rubio’s Long Snapping ranking, which also had him as the No. 7 long snapper in the country before he reached the collegiate ranks.
Ohio State’s long snapping duties have been shouldered by seventh-year veteran Bradley Robinson for what seems like forever. The Buckeyes had to adjust this fall when Robinson suffered a season-ending injury against Iowa. Since, second-year specialist Mason Arnold has filled in — except, he hasn’t been flawless.
Ferlmann could be competition for Arnold and classmate Max Lomonico. Or he might be the Buckeyes’ long-term replacement at the position. Time will tell.

Five-star Class of 2024 quarterback Dylan Raiola decommits from Ohio State
The Buckeyes lost a commitment from the top prospect in the 2024 class Saturday. Five-star Chandler (Ariz.) quarterback Dylan Raiola re-opened his recruitment after originally pledging to Ohio State in May.
Raiola appeared to be the next in line of highly-touted Buckeyes quarterbacks. He visited Columbus multiple times in the spring and told head coach Ryan Day and quarterbacks coach Corey Dennis he was committing during Ohio State’s spring game.
The news of Raiola’s decommitment comes at an interesting time, considering the Buckeyes secured a commitment from the top wide receiver in the 2024 class — five-star Hollywood (Fla) Chaminade-Madonna Prep prospect Jeremiah Smith — earlier this week.
Ohio State also got its quarterback for the 2023 cycle this week, as four-star Pierre (S.D.) T.F. Riggs signal caller Lincoln Kienholz flipped from Washington to the Buckeyes.

UNC forces overtime, outlasts Buckeyes in CBS Sports Classic
A buzzer beater was Ohio State’s saving grace in its Big Ten opener against Rutgers. Another cost the No. 23 Buckeyes the CBS Sports Classic Saturday in Madison Square Garden.
North Carolina came all the way back from as many as 14 points down and defeated Ohio State in overtime, 89-84. The game got there because of Northwestern transfer Pete Nance, who netted a turnaround fadeaway jumper just before the horn to knot things up at 79-79.
That gave the Tar Heels the momentum they needed to complete their come-from-behind victory in the extra frame. Three different UNC players finished with 20-plus points, most notably center Armando Bacot, who logged a 28-and-15 double-double.
Ohio State still led by 11 points with under seven minutes to go in regulation. And freshman Brice Sensabaugh scored the potential game-winner with two seconds left. Nance, of course, had other ideas.
