COLUMBUS — Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud is in contention for just about every major award a college football quarterback can earn. Stroud was named a semifinalist Tuesday for the Davey O’Brien award, given annually to the best signal caller in the sport.

Stroud is currently the Heisman Trophy frontrunner. He was also recognized as a Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award top-five candidate this week. And, following his five-touchdown performance against Indiana this past weekend, the redshirt sophomore was announced as the Maxwell Award’s national offensive player of the week — Stroud grabbed Big Ten offensive player of the week honors for that outing, too.

Stroud leads the country with 34 touchdown passes. He’s also first nationally in efficiency (188.2).

The Inland Empire, California, native is completing 67.1% of his passes this season. He’s tied for second in the FBS with 9.9 yards per attempt, not to mention that his 2,750 passing yards are 18th nationally.

Stroud has thrown five or more touchdowns four times this season, and now nine times in his career. He’s demonstrated the ability to run when he has to as well. In the elements against Northwestern, he rushed for 79 yards, setting up a pair of Buckeyes touchdowns with the zone-read.

Stroud is a projected top-five pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
