Davison Igbinosun sheds black stripe for Buckeyes
COLUMBUS — Davison Igbinosun doesn’t waste time. The second-year cornerback started 10 games as a true freshman for Ole Miss last season. Now, he’s already shed his black stripe at Ohio State after just five spring practices.
Igbinosun was one of two Buckeyes players — and the first transfer this spring — to lose his black stripe after the team’s first scrimmage of spring ball. The other was true freshman wide receiver Carnell Tate.
Igbinosun’s length has turned heads so far in the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. At 6-foot-2, 187 pounds, Igbinosun has a frame similar to former Buckeyes corner Jeff Okudah, who stands 6-foot-1 and wound up being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Igbinosun has a ways to go before even flirting with those prospects, but losing his black stripe the second week of spring practice is a good start.
Last season at Ole Miss, Igbinosun played 565 defensive snaps and allowed 25 receptions, 259 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns on 40 targets, according to Pro Football Focus. He gave up 10.4 yards per catch and notched five passes defended and 20 solo tackles.
He’s hoping to help an Ohio State secondary that was burned the final two games last season and, more specifically, a cornerback room that was hit by the injury bug throughout 2022.
