11 Buckeyes players named to East-West Shrine Bowl 1000

All-star games are an important part of the pre-draft process. The East-West Shrine Bowl is one of those all-star games, and it comes out with a 1,000-player watch list every year.

The watch list is named the Shrine Bowl 1,000 because, according to the East-West Shrine Bowl release, there are approximately 1,000 all-star game eligible players are either drafted, signed after the draft or invited to a rookie mini camp.

The list, compiled based on scouting feedback from NFL and college personnel, consists of players from all levels of college football who are in at least their fourth season.

This year’s includes 11 different Ohio State players:

The 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl is on Feb. 1, and it will be hosted at the Dallas Cowboys practice facility in Frisco, Texas.

Lorenzo Styles Jr. embracing ‘special deal’ to join brother in Ohio State secondary

Lorenzo Styles Jr. switched from wide receiver to cornerback this offseason. Then he transferred from Notre Dame to Ohio State, joining his younger brother Sonny, who is a second-year safety for the Buckeyes.

The family ties run deep for the Styles and Ohio State. After all, Lorenzo Jr. and Sonny are the sons of Lorenzo Styles Sr., a linebacker for the Buckeyes from 1992-94 and Super Bowl champion with the then-St. Louis Rams.

Lorenzo Jr. was Notre Dame’s second-leading receiver the last two years. He hasn’t played defensive back since he was at nearby Pickerington Central High School. But the Buckeyes are confident his transition will be smooth, in part because of his familiarity with the program.

Latest on Aaron Scott Jr., Devin Sanchez and more Ohio State cornerback recruiting notes

Ohio State isn’t done building out its newest group of cornerbacks in the 2024 class. Four-star Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville cornerback Bryce West committed the Buckeyes in June. Four-star Chandler (Ariz) Basha cornerback Miles Lockhart pledged a few weeks later in early July.

But cornerbacks and secondary coach Tim Walton and the Buckeyes have their eyes on four-star Springfield (Ohio) cornerback Aaron Scott Jr., too.

Plus, in the 2025 class, five-star Houston (Texas) North Shore cornerback Devin Sanchez is very much on the Buckeyes’ radar as well.

Lettermen Row has the latest on Scott and Sanchez. Check it out here.

Joshua Perry joins The Tim May Show to talk Northwestern scandal, Buckeyes preseason

Former Ohio State linebacker Joshua Perry joined The Tim May Show this week. Perry — a product of Olentangy High School in Lewis Center and former fourth-round NFL Draft pick — is continuing his climb up the broadcast ladder and taking on an analyst role for an NBC studio production this fall.

Perry, a 2014 national champion with the Buckeyes, offered his perspective on the Northwestern hazing scandal, which eventually led to the firing of longtime head coach Pat Fitzgerald.

Perry and show host Tim May, now in his 40th year covering Ohio State football, carried a back-and-forth conversation about not only Northwestern but also the latest developments among the rest of the Big Ten West. They even discussed one of the biggest Ohio State position battles this summer, a three-headed competition for the starting right tackle job.

It’s another cant-miss episode of The Tim May Show.
