Wide receiver Kaleb Brown explains transfer from Ohio State to Iowa
Second-year wide receiver Kaleb Brown transferred from Ohio State to Big Ten West foe Iowa this spring. Brown was joined by Caleb Burton — who made the move to Auburn — as a pair of former 2022 Buckeyes signees flocking elsewhere.
Brown met with Iowa media this week and talked about his decision to commit to Iowa and, before that, enter the transfer portal.
“I would say my first time stepping on campus, I felt like I was at home,” he said, via On3’s The Hawkeye Report. “From the time I got off the airplane, to the time that I left, I felt that it was pretty much special here. I like the community, honestly. The community is real peaceful. It’s different from the city I grew up in. I feel like it’s a place where I can definitely just put my head down and grind.”
Brown continued: “Going into the transfer portal, I would say my reasoning for basically leaving was just how stacked we were at Ohio State. There were definitely two or three boxes I wanted to check: definitely quarterback’s ability and then a place where I could work for a spot and play immediately. So those boxes are pretty much checked. It was an easy decision for me.”
Brown made just one catch for five yards last season. Ironically, that reception came against Iowa in Week 8. Brown scattered 24 offensive snaps across four games for the Buckeyes last year, according to Pro Football Focus.
Brown — the No. 20 wideout in the 2022 class, per the On3 Industry Ranking — said he learned “so many different things” from Ohio State’s incredibly deep wide receiver room.
One lesson stuck out, though.
“Honestly, I would just say the right way to do things, pretty much,” he said. “They pretty much just taught me the right way to do things at the end of the day. All of those guys are pretty precise in everything that they do. Definitely looked up to them for a while.”
Brown is now teaming up with former Michigan quarterback Cade McNamara in hopes of igniting a dormant Iowa offense.

Denzel Burke is as good a bet as any for CB1, but things get interesting opposite him. Who will start on the other side? Will it be fellow third-year cornerback Jordan Hancock? Or maybe Ole Miss transfer Davison Igbinosun?
Perhaps the Buckeyes will roll with a rotation at CB2 anyway, but, whoever starts at that spot will likely get the greatest share of snaps.
We’re exploring all of that here.
