Marvin Harrison Jr. tabbed as semifinalist for Walter Camp PoY Award
Ohio State superstar wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. was named a semifinalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award Tuesday for the second consecutive year.
The award is voted on by all FBS head coaches and sports information directors. The three finalists will be announced on Nov. 28, and the winner will be revealed on Dec. 8.
Here’s the full list of semifinalists:
- WR Marvin Harrison Jr. (Ohio State)
- TE Brock Bowers (Georgia)
- RB Blake Corum (Michigan)
- QB Jayden Daniels (LSU)
- RB Ollie Gordon II (Oklahoma State)
- DL Laiatu Latu (UCLA)
- QB Bo Nix (Oregon)
- QB Michael Penix Jr. (Washington)
- DL T’Vondre Sweat (Texas)
- QB Jordan Travis (FSU)
Earlier this week, Harrison was recognized as a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff Award, given annually to the best receiver in the country. He’s also a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, which honors the most outstanding player in college football. Most notably, Harrison is a Heisman Trophy candidate with a legit shot to earn a trip to New York City.
He’s the first Buckeyes player to ever put together two 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Harrison has caught 62 passes for 1,093 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023. He also rushed for his first career touchdown two games ago against Michigan State, courtesy of a 19-yard endaround.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound highlight-reel machine is tied for first in program history with 14 career 100-yard receiving games. Of those 14, seven of them have come this year, including his 162-yard explosion against Penn State, which saw him snag a career-high 11 receptions.

“It’s going to be really cool. It’s going to be really surreal to see him out there in this environment, this game,” McCarthy said this week.
Buckeyes embracing being on road, in hostile environment for The Game
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has called the Buckeyes “road warriors” throughout the season. So far, they have five wins away from Columbus. That includes primetime victories in a pair of iconic stadiums, Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend and Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
Next up on the list? Michigan Stadium, The Big House, this weekend.
“We certainly knew we had to go on the road for this one,” Day said. “It’s all in preparation for the last game of the year. It’s been great to get tested, to get battle-tested. So again, you talk about reference point — our team does have a reference point. It’ll be loud. It’ll be a hostile, great environment.
“But we’ve been in those before.”
