- Ohio State long snapper John Ferlmann’s snap hits the ground. LB Cody Simon recovers the dribbler and doesn’t reach the line to gain. Turnover on downs at the Buckeyes 30-yard line.
- 12:41 left in Q1: Maryland 7, Ohio State 0: The Terps capitalize on their great field position following the botched Buckeyes long snap. QB Taulia Tagovailoa connects with WR Kaden Prather for a 15-yard touchdown. CB Davison Igbinosun in coverage. Tagovailoa is 3-of-3 for 30 yds and that TD to start.
- As it has done quite often this season, the Ohio State defense comes up with a timely stop. Maryland rolls the dice on 4th-and-1 and calls a QB power for Billy Edwards Jr. Buckeyes DE J.T. Tuimoloau and LB Tommy Eichenberg in on the stop. Turnover on downs at the OSU 29. Halts a 10-play, 50-yard drive with 4:53 to go in the opening frame.
SECOND QUARTER
- 12:56 left in Q2: Maryland 10, Ohio State 0: Ohio State, which has struggled on 3rd Down today, gets a much-needed stop on 3rd-and-Goal. Safeties Sonny Styles and Josh Proctor lead the charge in bringing down Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa. Terps settle for a 21-yard FG.
- 9:41 left in Q2: Maryland 10, Ohio State 7: Josh Proctor has had a resurgent sixth season at Ohio State. It just got better. The Buckeyes veteran safety picks off Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa and takes the interception back 24 yards to the house. That’s the Buckeyes’ third defensive touchdown of the season.
- 1:32 left in Q2: Ohio State 10, Maryland 10: Ohio State entered the week tied for 93rd in RZ touchdown percentage (53.85%). And the Buckeyes have to settle for a FG this time after reaching the Maryland 7. Jayden Fielding converts the 36-yard attempt to tie things up. The Buckeyes’ offense got going because QB Kyle McCord connected with WR Marvin Harrison Jr. downfield for 58 yards. Harrison — who did have to wait for the ball a bit — made a defender miss after the catch.
- HALF: Ohio State 10, Maryland 10: Maryland’s 8-play, 42-yard drive at the end of the first half concludes with zero points. Terps opt for one final play with 12 seconds to go, but, after a short completion, QB Taulia Tagovailoa can’t spike the ball in time. Some mismanagement by head coach Mike Locksley but maybe more importantly Tagovailoa.
THIRD QUARTER
- 11:03 left in Q3: Maryland 17, Ohio State 10: The Terps go 75 yards in nine plays to restore their touchdown lead. QB Taulia Tagovailoa caps the drive with a 9-yard scramble for six. Beats Buckeyes LB Steele Chambers in a 1-on-1 en route to the end zone. Shortly before that, Tagovailoa connected with WR Jeshaun Jones on a backshoulder throw — second time the pairing has done that today — for a gain of 23 yards.
- 8:56 left in Q3: Ohio State 17, Maryland 17: After the 37-yard hookup between QB Kyle McCord and WR Julian Fleming, RB Chip Trayanum takes a toss four yards to the end zone for a score. We’ve got a tie game again. 4-play, 76-yard TD drive.
- 2:19 left in Q3: Ohio State 20, Maryland 17: Ohio State’s red zone struggles continue. The Buckeyes get a 1st-and-Goal from the Maryland 6 and don’t do anything with it other than collect three points with a 24-yard Jayden Fielding FG. Fielding remains perfect on the season. Ohio State squandered an opportunity for another touchdown after safety Lathan Ransom picked off Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa.
FOURTH QUARTER
- 10:16 left in Q4: Ohio State 27, Maryland 17: After an over-the-shoulder, 37-yard catch from WR Marvin Harrison Jr. that moved the chains on 2nd-and-33, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is called for sideline interference. The next play, though, QB Kyle McCord faked an endaround to WR Julian Fleming and hit TE Cade Stover for a 44-yard TD. WR Emeka Egbuka went down with an injury earlier in the drive and had to be helped off the field by Ohio State trainers.
- 7:01 left in Q4: Ohio State 34, Maryland 17: Maryland head coach Mike Locksley goes for it on 4th-and-3 from the Terps’ 32-yard line. And DE J.T. Tuimoloau makes him pay. Tuimoloau is the first of four Buckeyes defenders to stop RB Antwain Littleton II. Turnover on downs. Then, in due time, QB Kyle McCord and WR Marvin Harrison Jr. link up for a TD. It gets called back because of an illegal motion penalty. The very next play, McCord and Harrison link up for another TD. This one counts. Harrison now has eight catches for 163 yards and a score.
- 2:10 left in Q4: Ohio State 37, Maryland 17: Jayden Fielding is 3-of-3 on the day and 7-of-7 on the season after this 41-yard FG. Buckeyes take a 20-point lead in the final minutes. RB Miyan Williams has had a quiet day, but he got some good run on that drive.
