PFF ranks Ohio State receiving corps tops in the nation

Pro Football Focus already ran through its top-10 FBS players at each position earlier this offseason. Now, PFF is ranking the top-10 teams in the country for each position group.

As far as receiving corps are concerned, Ohio State’s is at the top of the leaderboard, according to PFF college football analyst Max Chadwick, who also factored in tight ends and receiving running backs to his ranking.

This doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering that Chadwick already ranked Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka as the top-two wideouts in the nation this season, respectively.

“According to PFF’s wins above average metric, Marvin Harrison Jr. was the highest-graded and most valuable receiver last season. He could go down as the best receiver prospect in over a decade once he enters the NFL draft. Emeka Egbuka is the favorite to be WR2 in the 2024 draft behind Harrison and would be the top receiver for any other school in the country. Only Harrison tallied more receiving yards and touchdowns last season than Egbuka among returning Power Five receivers.”

Max Chadwick, PFF College Football Analyst

But Chadwick also points out that, in 2021, Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson was ninth among Power Five tailbacks with 312 receiving yards. Plus, Cade Stover is back after, last year, he became the first Buckeyes tight end to record at least 30 catches in a season since Ben Hartsock in 2003.

That doesn’t even include the latest batch of highly-touted Ohio State wide receivers — Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss, Noah Rogers and Bryson Rodgers — as well as a true freshman tight end Jelani Thurman, who has long-term potential to be a legit receiving threat for the Buckeyes.

Here is Chadwick’s complete top 10, when it comes to ranking the country’s best receiving corps:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Texas
  3. Washington
  4. Georgia
  5. Florida State
  6. USC
  7. Oregon
  8. LSU
  9. Texas A&M
  10. Alabama

Ohio State 2024 recruiting class holds second place spot in On3 Team Industry Rankings

Ohio State had another important week in the recruiting sphere. The Buckeyes are holding steady at No. 2 in the 2024 class following the commitment of four-star Chandler (Ariz) Basha cornerback Miles Lockhart.

Ohio State now has 18 commits this cycle: 12 on the offensive side of the ball and six on the defensive side of the ball. The Buckeyes’ commits have an average recruiting rating of 93.269, which is good for second nationally behind only Alabama, according to the On3 Industry Ranking.

Ohio State still has work to do in what’s shaping up to be a massive 2024 class. For now, though, we’re reviewing who the Buckeyes have reeled in so far.
