Quinshon Judkins describes relationship with TreVeyon Henderson

The days of bell cow backs are mostly in the past. Running back duos are all over the sport, especially at the college and NFL levels.

Ohio State has maybe the best FBS tandem, thanks to the addition of former Ole Miss back Quinshon Judkins, a two-time All-SEC honoree who transferred in last month.

Judkins is joining forces with incumbent starter TreVeyon Henderson, a dynamic Buckeyes ball carrier since his breakout, 19-touchdown true freshman campaign in 2021.

“Me and TreVeyon have always been close,” Judkins said in late January. “We’ve always been close on social media, before I even came here.

“So we’ve always been in contact, just supporting each other throughout our collegiate careers. And when I decided to come here, he was very excited.”

That said, when Judkins was asked about how much he knew about Henderson’s decision to return to Ohio State for next season at the time of his own commitment, Judkins emphasized that he was focused on his own process in the portal.

“I think with the timing of my commitment and how fast my recruitment was, I think I wasn’t more so focused on what was going on around me,” Judkins said. “I was just like, ‘OK, what do I want to do? Where do I want to decide to go?’ And that was just my process for me.”

But now that they’re both in Columbus, he’s excited to work with a player like Henderson, who was rated the fourth-best running back among draft-eligible prospects by ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.

Judkins rushed for a combined 31 touchdowns in his two seasons at Ole Miss. In the portal, he was drawn to Ohio State, where he’s adding to an all hands-on-deck national title push and playing for something bigger than himself.

“I think just more so the situation here,” Judkins said. “Just coming here being not only with Tre but just great players all around and being able to execute and contribute to this team and do what I can to help us win. That was the most important.”

Judkins was asked about the appeal of playing with Henderson in regard to splitting carries and reducing tread on his tires before pursuing an NFL career. While Judkins said he and Henderson haven’t had a conversation about carry counts, he’s well aware of how the game’s changing and noted that managing milage “definitely plays a factor” nowadays.

“We’re just very fortunate for each other to be both playing here,” Judkins said.

Staff Reset: Evaluating Buckeyes coaching staff after offseason moves

Reaching the end of its “Roster Reset” series, Lettermen Row examined the Buckeyes coaching staff. Ohio State made some notable moves, none bigger than hiring former Penn State and Houston Texans head coach Bill O’Brien to be its next offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

The Buckeyes also made changes at special teams coordinator and safeties coach. We break down those staff alterations as well as pose the biggest question facing the group on both sides of the ball.

Development of Devin Royal a silver lining for Buckeyes during Big Ten tumble

Ohio State men’s basketball has lost seven of its last eight games, but one silver lining is the growth of freshman Devin Royal.

With his nine-point outing Friday night at Iowa, Royal is now averaging 5.8 points over his last six games. That average is weighed down by a scoreless night at Nebraska, where he played just one minute.

The 6-foot-6, 210-pound forward has recorded 35 points in 50 minutes during that span — in other words, 0.7 points per minute. For reference, Bruce Thornton, who leads the team with 15.6 points per game, is averaging 0.473 points per minute this season.

In minimal minutes, Royal is maximizing his scoring ability.
