Quick hitters from Ryan Day Michigan postgame press conference
ANN ARBOR, Mich. — No. 2 Ohio State lost to No. 3 Michigan, 30-24, Saturday afternoon in Michigan Stadium.
Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day spoke to the media postgame. Lettermen Row has updates.
What Day said after the Ohio State loss…
+ “Just sick. The fact that we came up short in this game. You work your whole year for it, and we came up short,” Day said of the loss.
+ “It looked like he got hit, and they made a nice play,” Day said of quarterback Kyle McCord’s game-ending interception.
+ Day was asked the Roman Wilson touchdown in the first half. He was told that it was called a touchdown and because of that it was upheld. He said he didn’t totally understand that call.
+ Day said there was too much time off the clock on Michigan’s final drive. They got a stop but not soon enough.
+ Day said The Game comes down to the turnover battle and rushing yards. The Buckeyes didn’t win in either of those categories.
+ Day said “there’s a locker room in there that’s devastated.” Day reiterated that they didn’t win the rushing yardage battle or the turnover battle.
+ Day said there was one drive in particular where the Buckeyes were rocking off the ball, in terms of rushing success. But, on the whole, Ohio State didn’t win the rushing battle, he repeated.

+ Day was asked about McCord’s first interception. You want to have a good start, and the Buckeyes didn’t get that. Day said McCord just fired the pass into Marvin Harrison Jr. on a slant play, but Day said he’d have to watch it back on the film to know exactly why it was picked off.
+ Day said he felt like they had some good stuff, in regard to explosive plays. “I felt like that part we were doing a pretty decent job on offense,” Day said.
+ Day said he’ll have to watch back the offensive line play on film. He said he thought some of the protection was good but not consistent enough.
+ Day was asked why he opted for the 52-yard field goal on 4th-and-2 at the end of the first half. Day: “If you go for it on fourth down and don’t get it, the other team gets the ball. I thought at that time, the best thing to do is to decide to go for a field goal. So whether it was the end of the half or if it was eight minutes to go in the second quarter, I would have made the decision to kick a field goal. I just wanted the clock to run down so we’re out of the half. Whether there was 30 seconds on the clock at the half or not, the decision was made to make a field goal, and I felt like we might as well run it down and then make that the last play of the half.”
+ Day was asked if he thought his team is CFP team. He said he hasn’t even thought about that. “I think we have a team that’s solid in all phases,” Day said. “I do believe this team could compete with anyone in the country.”
+ Day was asked where does his team go from here after a third consecutive loss. He said the game just ended, and he’ll have to think it all over. “Just trying the process game right now, and then we’ll go from there,” Day said.
