Ohio State CB Cameron Brown, RT Dawand Jones accept postseason all-star game invites

Ohio State is preparing for the College Football Playoff. It’s going to take everything the No. 4 Buckeyes have to upset No. 1 Georgia in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve. But, as much as the focus is on that semifinal matchup, there’s life after the CFP.

For several Buckeyes players, that means shifting gears for pre-draft training. Ohio State veteran cornerback Cameron Brown and right tackle Dawand Jones are part of that group.

Both accepted invites to play in postseason all-star games. Brown will play in the East-West Shrine Bowl, and Jones will play in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Brown — who has been riddled by injury this season but finally feels healthy for the CFP — joins Buckeyes defensive tackle Taron Vincent as soon-to-be East-West Shrine Bowl participants, and Jones — a first-team Pro Football Focus and CBS Sports All-American — becomes the second Ohio State player to accept a Senior Bowl invite this season, alongside defensive end Zach Harrison.

Ohio State lands 2023 quarterback, top wideout in 2024 cycle

To say that Wednesday was a big recruiting day for Ohio State would be an understatement. The Buckeyes reeled in their quarterback for the 2023 class — Lincoln Kienholz, a four star from Pierre (S.D.) T.F. Riggs — and then landed a commitment from the top wide receiver in the 2024 cycle: Jeremiah Smith, a consensus five star from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep.

Keinholz is the second Class of 2023 quarterback to commit to Ohio State. Brock Glenn, also a four star, first committed to the Buckeyes but then flipped to Florida State in mid-November, leaving the program without a signal caller this cycle until Wednesday. Keinholz is coming off his fourth straight state championship victory, and, according to On3, he’s the No. 8 quarterback prospect and the No. 116 overall prospect in the 2023 class.

As for Smith, well, he’s in a category of his own. The 6-foot-3, 185-pound wideout committed to Ohio State over more than 30 other schools, including Miami, Florida, Alabama and Florida State.

Smith is the next in line of several great Buckeyes wide receiver recruits. And he’s in the same Ohio State class as five-star Chandler (Ariz.) quarterback Dylan Raiola.

According to On3, Ohio State’s 2023 class (20 commits) is third nationally and the Buckeyes’ 2024 cycle (four commits) is first in the country.

Practice Report: Underdog Buckeyes turning full focus to Peach Bowl matchup

There were 20 players on hand to talk to the media Wednesday at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. It was the first time Buckeyes players met with reporters since quarterback C.J. Stroud and defensive end J.T. Tuimoloau talked postgame after Ohio State’s embarrassing, 45-23 defeat to Michigan.

There was a lot to break down. That included an inspiring pre-CFP bid speech from Tuimoloau, the defense’s mindset following its implosion against the Wolverines as well as some injury updates — most notably one from running back Miyan Williams, who leads the team in rushing.

Lettermen Row staffers Tim May, Spencer Holbrook and Andy Backstrom talked about it all in another Practice Report video from inside the Woody.

Peach Bowl: 16 days away
