TreVeyon Henderson will miss College Football Playoff with foot injury
COLUMBUS — Ohio State sophomore running back TreVeyon Henderson — who has been dealing with a nagging foot injury since the Toledo game — will not play in the College Football Playoff.
“As much as I wanted to finish out the season with my brothers, I know God have bigger and better plans for me!” Henderson wrote on Twitter.
Henderson is set to have surgery Friday, he confirmed to Lettermen Row.
Henderson tweeted after the Buckeyes’ 45-23 loss to Michigan in the regular season finale, a game in which Henderson was sidelined with a boot, that he was playing through “torn ligaments and a broken bone” in his foot this season.
Henderson suffered the injury against Toledo on Sept. 17 and tried to push through it but ended up missing three of the final four games of the regular season. He returned for the Maryland game, however, he rushed for just 19 yards on 11 carries and, at times, was overly hesitant after receiving the ball in the backfield and, at others, was missing holes and instead prematurely bouncing outside.
Henderson managed to record back-to-back 100-yard games against Wisconsin and Michigan State in the weeks following his injury against Toledo. He’s still second on the team with 517 rushing yards on 107 carries (5.3 yards per attempt). Henderson also posted seven total touchdowns in an abbreviated 2022 (six rushing, one receiving).

Henderson, a former five star and the No. 1 running back in the 2021 class according to On3, led the Buckeyes with 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground as a true freshman.
Ohio State’s running back room has been hit hard by the injury bug this year.
The Buckeyes lost Evan Pryor for the season in August. T.C. Caffey was sidelined for the year in October. Miyan Williams — who leads Ohio State with 817 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns — missed the Michigan State game with a knee injury, left the Penn State matchup early with a hand injury and then was out 1.5 games with an apparent lower-leg injury he suffered in the first half against Indiana before rushing just eight times versus Michigan.
Now, Henderson is unavailable for the most important game of the season, meaning that true freshman Dallan Hayden, who has three 100-yard games in 2022 but got just 11 offensive snaps versus Michigan, could be thrust into a larger role New Year’s Eve in the Peach Bowl against top-ranked Georgia.
