TreVeyon Henderson 'full go' for Wisconsin game
COLUMBUS — Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said Thursday on his 97.1 The Fan radio show that running back TreVeyon Henderson is “full go” for this week’s game at Wisconsin.
Day said Henderson had a really good week of practice leading up to the Week 9 road trip.
Henderson has missed the Buckeyes’ last three games with an undisclosed injury. He was first held out against Maryland in Week 6. After the 37-17 win over the Terrapins, Day explained that Henderson didn’t play out of caution. The next week at Purdue, the junior once again participated in the first round of pregame warmups but didn’t suit up. Last week versus Penn State, Henderson suited up and went through both rounds of pregame warmups yet still didn’t play.
But, from Day’s latest remarks, it seems as if Henderson is finally returning to the field. Despite missing those three games, Henderson is still Ohio State’s leading rusher. His last game was at Notre Dame on Sept. 23, when he ripped off a 61-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.
He’s the only Buckeyes back with 15-plus carries averaging north of 4.3 yards per attempt this season. Henderson has posted 6.7 yards a pop — although that number is inflated by a few big gainers, including the one in South Bend — and he’s got 295 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 44 totes.
OHIO STATE 2023 RB | ATT | YARDS | YARDS/ATT | 10+ YARD RUNS | YARDS AFTER CONTACT/ATT |
Chip Trayanum | 60 | 257 | 4.3 | 5 | 3.15 |
Miyan Williams | 49 | 158 | 3.2 | 3 | 1.98 |
TreVeyon Henderson | 44 | 295 | 6.7 | 7 | 3.80 |
Dallan Hayden | 11 | 76 | 6.9 | 3 | 3.08 |
Henderson was sidelined four of the final five games last year with a fractured sesamoid bone in his foot.
“We hope he makes a big impact, certainly,” Day said Tuesday of Henderson’s return. “We know that he can hit home runs. He did that in the Notre Dame game. And certainly that was a big difference in what we were doing.

“We have confidence in all of our running backs. But he does allow us the opportunity to hit a home run and be explosive — that doesn’t just happen. There’s a lot that comes with that.”

From Lettermen Row’s Spencer Holbrook:
WR Emeka Egbuka
Egbuka, like Henderson, was also listed as “questionable” for the Buckeyes in their massive showdown against Penn State. He was considered a game-time decision for Ohio State as it faced one of the top defenses in the country. Egbuka has 22 catches for 303 yards and three receiving touchdowns this season after going over the 1,000-yard mark for the Buckeyes’ prolific offense last year.
Ohio State didn’t disclose what Egbuka’s injury is. He went down during the second half of the win over Maryland on Oct. 7. But fellow star wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. did say last week at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center during his media availability that both he and Egbuka were dealing with ankle problems.
NOTE: Day was asked Wednesday specifically about the status of Henderson, Egbuka and Denzel Burke for this week’s game at Wisconsin. Day said, “We’re expecting those guys to be available, for sure.”
CB Denzel Burke
Burke was named a midseason All-American last week, but he left in the second half of the Buckeyes win at Purdue two weeks ago, first going to the medical tent before heading to the locker room. He did not return to that game and did not play for the Buckeyes against Penn State.
