Cold temperatures but lower chance of rain expected for Ohio State-Wisconsin
Ohio State is dealing with Big Ten weather for the third week in a row. This time, however, cold temperatures are the headliner at Wisconsin Saturday night rather than rain or wind.
Actually, it looks as though the rain will hold off.
As of Saturday morning, here’s the hourly forecast in Madison, via AccuWeather:
NOTE: The below times are listed in E.T.
- 7 p.m. — 41º, 0% chance of rain, winds 7 mph, gusts 13 mph
- 8 p.m. — 40º, 2% chance of rain, winds 7 mph, gusts 12 mph
- 9 p.m. — 39º, 19% chance of rain, winds 7 mph, gusts 10 mph
- 10 p.m. — 39º, 19% chance of rain, winds 8 mph, gusts 9 mph
- 11 p.m. — 38º, 24% chance of rain, winds 8 mph, gusts 9 mph
With kickoff set for 7:30 E.T., the Week 9 Big Ten crossover matchup will feature temperatures in the low 40s and high 30s. But it’s expected to feel a few degrees colder than what’s listed each hour.
In other words, it’s the first “cold weather game” of the season for the Buckeyes.
Ohio State vs. Wisconsin: Game time, details
Ohio State leads the all-time series, 62-18-5. The Buckeyes have won nine straight games against the Badgers, dating back to the 2011 season. In that span, Ohio State has defeated Wisconsin three times in the Big Ten Championship: 59-0 in 2014, 27-21 in 2017 and 34-21 in 2019.
Wisconsin has played Ohio State close over the last decade-plus. Of those nine aforementioned games, five were decided by one score. Except, lately, things haven’t been as close. Last year, the Buckeyes handled Wisconsin at home under the lights, 52-21. Quarterback C.J. Stroud threw for five touchdowns, and both TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground. Ohio State scored touchdowns on each of its first four drives, ultimately staking itself to a 31-7 lead and then putting up a 50 burger in the second half.
It was a much different story the last time the Buckeyes were in Madison — that 2016 meeting saw the Buckeyes trail, 16-6, at intermission and need to pull out a 30-23 overtime win in Camp Randall Stadium. The game had its fair share of heavy rain, but then-quarterback J.T. Barrett accounted for three total touchdowns after halftime, including a seven-yard touchdown pass in overtime to Noah Brown. Defensive end Tyquan Lewis sealed the win with a sack on 4th-and-Goal from the Ohio State 4-yard line.

Series fun fact
Ohio State and Wisconsin first played each other in 1913. Back then, the Badgers pulled out a 12-0 victory, their first of three consecutive wins to start the all-time series. Two of those three games featured Badgers’ shutouts. But let’s return to 1913 for a second: That was the same year Woodrow Wilson was sworn in as the 28th president of the United States. Plus, the 16th and 17th amendments to the U.S. Constitution were passed, signifying (1) the federal government could now impose and collect income tax and (2) the direct election of senators. Oh, and that was also the same year the Ford Motor Company started assembly line production of the Model T in Detroit.
