Adam Wallin, Neal Shipley recognized as PING All-Americans
A breakthrough season for Ohio State men’s golf got better Wednesday when two Buckeyes players, Adam Wallin and Neal Shipley, earned honorable mention PING All-American honors.
Both Wallin and Shipley ended their collegiate golf careers on a high note. Wallin posted seven top-20 finishes while logging an average score of 71.73, the best in his stay at Ohio State. When all was said and done, 93.2% of Wallin’s rounds counted toward the team score. Most notably, he led the NCAA Championships in stroke play after 54 holes — he clocked out tied for eighth at 1-under par. No Buckeyes player had placed that high since 1985.
It had been even longer — 45 years to be exact — since Ohio State, as a team, made an NCAA Championship run better than this year’s. After qualifying for match play, the Buckeyes tied for third, bowing out in the semifinals. So, again, that was the program’s best finish since it won it all in 1979.
Shipley played a role in the Buckeyes’ late push. That was, after he starred at the Masters. Shipley made the cut, played with Tiger Woods on Sunday and collected low amateur accolades.
Shipley, also an honorable mention All-American last year, averaged a career-best and team-leading score of 71.35 this season. He piled up six top-10 finishes, one more than he recorded in his previous four seasons total, including a win in the Southwestern Invitational back in January.
Also of note: Wallin and Shipley played their way to PING All-Region recognition, as did fellow senior Maxwell Moldovan, who wrapped his Ohio State career with the lowest scoring average in program history (71.25).
Ask the Expert: Are first-year expectations for Jeremiah Smith realistic?
Jeremiah Smith broke the internet more than once this spring. He’s a quiet true freshman, but there’s nothing quiet about the virality of his ball skills and his fast emergence as a Buckeyes receiving weapon.

Smith became the first Ohio State freshman to ever shed his black stripe in only four practices. His play is demanding game snaps, so much so that he could even be a Day 1 starter at the wideout position.
Are the first-year expectations realistic for the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 1 overall prospect in the 2024 class? Lettermen Row consulted On3 Vice President, National College Football Recruiting and Transfer Portal Director Steve Wiltfong.
