COLUMBUS — Chance Gray is returning to Ohio. The former five-star point guard recruit from Winton Woods in Cincinnati is transferring to Ohio State after two years at Oregon.
Gray is coming off a productive sophomore campaign with the Ducks. Although she shot sub-35% from the field for the second year in a row, she ranked second on the team with 13.9 points per game. The 5-foot-9 Gray also averaged 2.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 0.8 steals per contest while playing 36.5 minutes a night.
She made by far the most 3-pointers on an Oregon team that lost its final 14 games in 2023-24. In fact, her 59 triples were at least 28 more than every other Ducks player.
Gray scored 20 or more points five times this season. The year before that, when she averaged 10.3 points per game, she reached the 20-point mark twice.
Along with clocking out as one of the top-10 basketball recruits in the 2022 class, Gray was also a finalist for the Naismith Girls High School Players of the Year. Additionally, she was a McDonald’s and Jordan Brand All-American.

Gray played her first three high school seasons at Lakota West before moving to Winton Woods for her senior year, during which she averaged 26.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.2 steals per game.
She will immediately bolster a Buckeyes backcourt that will graduate both Jacy Sheldon and Celeste Taylor this offseason. Sheldon and Taylor ranked first and fourth on the team in scoring this season, respectively, and Taylor was voted the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year by the coaches. Plus, redshirt sophomore guard Emma Shumate, freshman guard Diana Collins and fifth-year guard Rikki Harris turned to the transfer portal.
Ohio State is, however, bringing back redshirt sophomore Kennedy Cambridge, junior Kaia Henderson and sixth-year Madison Greene at the guard position. Head coach Kevin McGuff and the Buckeyes are also welcoming in highly-touted 2024 guards Ava Watson and Jaloni Cambridge this offseason.
