Ohio State women’s hockey head coach Nadine Muzerall receives extension
Ohio State women’s hockey has won two national championships over the last three years under head coach Nadine Muzerall. In her eight seasons at the helm, she’s built the Buckeyes into a premier power in the sport. She’s not leaving anytime soon.
Muzerall signed a contract extension through the 2028-29 season Monday.
“We are thrilled to extend Nadine’s contract and have her continue to lead our women’s hockey program,” Janine Oman, Ohio State Senior Deputy Director of Athletics and Senior Woman Administrator, said in the release.
“She has set a new standard for women’s hockey at Ohio State and in a short time shaped this program into a perennial national title contender. Not only has she developed great hockey players, but also excellent students and leaders off the ice. We are excited to see what’s to come for this program and its student-athletes under her continued leadership.”
Ohio State has made five straight NCAA Tournaments, advanced to four consecutive Frozen Fours and made each of the last three national title games.
Ohio State is coming off its most dominant season in program history. The Buckeyes rewrote the record book with 35 wins in 2023-24. Keep in mind, before Muzerall arrived in Columbus, Ohio State had only one 20-win season to its name. And, for reference, the Buckeyes have now rattled off three seasons in a row with 30 or more wins. Muzerall has posted a 195-73-19 record leading Ohio State.
Muzerall has won the WHCA Coach of the Year award five times. While coaching the Buckeyes, her teams have accounted for nine All-America honors and 33 All-WCHA awards. Most notably, in 2023, Sophie Jaques became the first Ohio State player to win the Patty Kazmaier Award, in other words women’s hockey’s Heisman Trophy equivalent. She did so, of course, with Muzerall as head coach.
“It’s truly an honor to get to lead this program and I want to thank Janine Oman and Gene Smith for trusting me with that responsibility,” Muzerall said of her extension in the release.
“I am proud of what we’ve built here over the last eight seasons but know that there is still much for us to achieve as a program. I look forward to continuing to develop our program into one of the nation’s elite.”

We’re starting with the Ohio State quarterbacks. There are five on scholarship.
And we have five offseason questions about that crowded room, which includes a pair of transfer newcomers. Will Howard is a graduate transfer from Kansas State. Julian Sayin, meanwhile, is an early enrollee transfer from Alabama.
Find out what questions we have about those two, as well as the rest of the group, here.

Ohio State offer “really intriguing” to Five-Star Plus+ PF Caleb Wilson
Atlanta (Ga.) Holy Innocents Episcopal five-star plus+ power forward Caleb Wilson has a laundry list of offers. Ohio State is now on that list, too.
Wilson spoke to Lettermen Row about his interest in the Buckeyes, plus the beginnings of his relationship with head coach Jake Diebler.
“A new relationship,” Wilson told Lettermen Row. “The time he gave me the offer was the first time talking to him, but he’s a cool guy. I’ve heard nothing but good things about him from other people in college basketball, and people that have played with him.”
