Good morning, Ohio State fans, and welcome to the Scarlet Sunrise! Football will always be our focus, but every day we’ll cover news, notes and analysis from across Buckeyes sports. Join us each morning to get caught up on everything you missed in the world of Ohio State football, recruiting, basketball and more.

Lejond Cavazos set to announce

Ohio State is in prime position to land a commitment from 4-star safety Lejond Cavazos — for the second time. The Bradenton (Fla.) IMG prospect decommitted from the Buckeyes in the wake of Urban Meyer’s retirement, but he never took the Buckeyes out of the equation. Ryan Day went hard after Cavazos from the start, working hard to try to bring him back into the fold and making it known that he was a priority.

Cavazos will announce his destination at 6 p.m. ET on Friday.

Geirean Hatchett releases Top 5

The Buckeyes have four committed offensive linemen and are eager to add two more to the list. One of their top targets for much of the last year has been Ferndale (Wash.) 4-star guard Geirean Hatchett, and Ohio State received some good news on that front Wednesday evening when the country’s 10th-ranked guard prospect announced his top-5 schools on Twitter.

In addition to Ohio State, Hatchett listed Stanford, Notre Dame, Washington and Oklahoma as his five remaining options.

“I have a mental checklist that a school has to check off all the boxes on,” he said in November. “Ohio State has to be able to check off all of those boxes for me before I take the next step. At this point, I haven’t found anything that’s missing from my checklist. I definitely still have to think about it a lot and see if it is the right fit for me, just like every other school.”
