COLUMBUS — Ohio State opens November as the top team in all of College Football.

Thanks to a pair of top-15 wins (at Notre Dame, vs. Penn State), the Buckeyes were named the No. 1 team in the country in the first edition of this year’s College Football Playoff rankings, which were released Tuesday night.

But the Buckeyes do not care about those rankings entering November — at all.

“For us, we have to win this week,” Day said Tuesday. “I say that every year, and I think it’s great for the fans, I think it’s great for football to talk about it. But ultimately, we have to continue to win and win out. So that’s our focus. And we’re just going to take it one week at a time and then we’ll come up for air at the end of the season. The ultimate, rankings are going to matter after the Big Ten Championship game.”

Ohio State controls its destiny to get to the Big Ten title game and, eventually, into the College Football Playoff. And the November slate begins with a trip to Rutgers on Saturday afternoon.

Lettermen Row has every detail you’ll need to get ready for the Buckeyes matchup with the Scarlet Knights. Let’s break it all down.

Ohio State at Rutgers: Game time, details

Ohio State has never lost to Rutgers; the Buckeyes are 9-0 all-time against the Scarlet Knights. They have won every game by at least 22 points. They have won each of the last two meetings by 39 points, including a blowout win last September.

But Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano, former Buckeyes defensive coordinator under Urban Meyer, has Rutgers bowl eligible with four games still to play. And Ohio State already understands that this Scarlet Knights team is much better than those of the past that the Buckeyes — and the rest of the Big Ten — has feasted on.
