Ohio State to host four-star RB Derrek Cooper for an official visit in June

COLUMBUS – Ohio State scheduled to host any official visitors for a few more months but prospects have already started scheduling visits to Ohio State.

The most recent prospect to lock in an official visit to Ohio State is four-star running back Derrek Cooper out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep. On Thursday morning, Cooper’s mother, Tonya Brinson, posted on X that they have scheduled an official visit to Ohio State from June 20-22.

Cooper, the No. 2 running back prospect in On3 Industry Rankings, has been a top target for Ohio State running backs coach Carlos Locklyn for almost a year. He is a is a big believer in Locklyn after seeing how he managed Ohio State’s running backs during the Buckeyes National Championship run.

“They looked good in the playoffs this year,” Cooper told Lettermen Row. “Coach Lock is a great coach. He is sending his two backs to the league and I look well into that.”

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day and Locklyn also Cooper at Chaminade-Madonna Prep during the January contact period.

Cooper also made the trip to Columbus last season for the Buckeyes 45-0 beatdown of Purdue on Nov. 9. The 6-foot, 190 pound Cooper attends the same high school as freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith. He enjoyed catching up with the Buckeyes superstar wideout and his former teammate after the game.

Cooper had 124 carries for 905 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in 15 games as a junior at Chaminade-Madonna Prep. He also hauled in nine receptions for 156 yards and one touchdown through the air. Cooper also had 46 total tackles and 25 solo tackles on defense. He also had 10 tackles for loss and four sacks.
