Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players themselves. Birminology shows who the young men being recruited by Ohio State truly are — by talking to them. This week’s guest is 2021 5-star running back TreVeyon Henderson.

After a 15-0, state-championship junior season, it’s easy to assume that TreVeyon Henderson and the Hopewell (Va.) Blue Devils program would be used to the attention.

Still, Ricky Irby, the head coach at Hopewell, acknowledges these last few months have gotten a little hectic as every major college football program in the country has been through the doors that lead to his almost closet-sized office of this Richmond-area high school.

“We were going pretty good until the dead period there,” Irby joked with Lettermen Row on Tuesday. “We needed the break.”

The attention for the Blue Devil is rare, but so is TreVeyon Henderson, the star running back for Irby’s program who has gone from relative unknown to the national spotlight in just a few months as the secret of his near 15-minute long, touchdown-laden highlight tape caught the eyes of recruiters everywhere.

Ohio State noticed Henderson a while ago. The relationship that exists now actually began when current Buckeyes linebackers coach Al Washington was working with Michigan, though he’s turned over the majority of his role in Henderson’s recruitment to running backs Tony Alford.

How has Alford differentiated himself in the mind of Henderson? What is the timeline for his college decision? What will ultimately make the difference in his recruitment?

Found out those things and much more on the latest episode of Birminology, brought to you by Lettermen Row.
