COLUMBUS — Ohio State won the Big Ten regular season title thanks to an incredible run in conference play.

But that didn’t matter when the top-seeded Buckeyes headed to Minneapolis for their opener in the Big Ten Tournament.

Just a few days removed from losing in the regular-season finale at Iowa — their first loss since Dec. 30, the Buckeyes Big Ten Tournament run was cut as short as it could be; they lost to Maryland in a stunning quarterfinal upset inside the Target Center on Friday.

Final score: No. 8 seed Maryland 82, No. 1 seed Ohio State 61.

The Buckeyes are heading home after a one-game stay in Minneapolis, and now they’ll have to wait to find out if the upset loss will cost them a chance at a top seed in the NCAA Tournament; that draw will be revealed a week from Sunday. They’ll head to the tournament on a shocking two-game losing streak that directly follows a 15-game winning streak.

Ohio State jumped out to an impressive early lead over the Terrapins before being doubled up in the second quarter. Maryland entered halftime with a 38-30 lead and never trailed in the second half.
