Ohio State football recruiting can be a wild ride full of twists and turns as recruits from all over the country maneuver their way to signing day. Lettermen Row is here to help navigate the tumultuous roads by getting to the heart of the matter with the young football players and Ohio State coaches and staff members themselves. Today’s guest is Florida defensive back Ryan Turner.

Forget the rankings, and forget the number of stars next to his name because those things aren’t going to tell the story of Ryan Turner.

The offers — always a more valuable metric — will.

If a defensive back has offers from Ohio State, Clemson, LSU, Georgia, Miami, Florida — and a dozen others — he’s probably pretty good. Still, it’s interesting to see how those offers match up with the 3-star ranking that is currently attached to the 6-foot-tall, 190-pound cornerback from Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep.

Though he’s ranked as the No. 55-ranked cornerback in the country, Ryan Turner clearly has shown an upside that’s captured the attention of people who matter, and so his focus now is turning his attention to a college choice, something he’s working on through increased contact with the top schools on his list and hopefully visits in the near future.

Since being offered the Buckeyes in early February, the relationship between Ohio State and Turner has taken off, including a staff-wide Zoom call early last week. A trip to Columbus is high on the priority list for the rising prospect, but so too are a few other stops.

What other programs are must-visits? Why is a former Ohio State defensive coordinator making such an impact on Ryan Turner? What did his think of his first conversation with Kerry Coombs and when does he want to make a decision? The underrated defensive back from South Florida joins Birminology to discuss his offseason work, plans for life after football and more.
