Buckeyes taking day off as big day of college football unfolds

Ohio State had its coaches out on the road recruiting Monday. The Buckeyes practiced as a full team Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday despite being on an idle week. Friday, coaches were back on the trail recruiting for the future of the program.

Now Saturday, the program has a day of rest.

Day gave his staff the day off on Saturday for rest, recovery and just to have a day during the off week away — a rarity, especially during the college football season.

While the rest of the heavyweights around the country are playing high-stakes games in hostile environments, the Buckeyes have one of their rare off days. And then Sunday, it’s back to work for the nation’s No. 2 team.

Bold Predictions for second half of Buckeyes season

The Buckeyes can’t cement their place in the Big Ten title game or College Football Playoff until they get through the conference gauntlet. But the off week came at the exact midway point through the season, allowing Ohio State to begin focusing their energy on getting back to Indianapolis, back to the top of the league it has ruled over for so many years, back to the national title game.

Of course, Ryan Day and the Buckeyes are taking things one day at a time and one game at a time, making sure not to overlook a date with Iowa before heading to Penn State in two weeks for a massive showdown.

But Lettermen Row is never afraid to look ahead at the remainder of the slate and dish out a fresh batch of off-week bold predictions. We’ve also made sure to make claims for who the Buckeyes could face in a potential Big Ten title game and CFP semifinal. Let’s dive in with a different kind of Bold Predictions on a non-football Friday.

ICYMI: Marvin Harrison Jr. added to Biletnikoff Award watch list

Marvin Harrison Jr. has been a dynamic weapon all season so far for Ohio State.

The rest of the country is paying attention to just how good Harrison is. The sophomore wide receiver was added to the Biletnikoff Award watch list earlier this week, becoming the third Buckeyes pass catcher to be on the list. He joins Emeka Egbuka and preseason favorite Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Harrison has 31 catches for 536 yards and a team-leading nine touchdown catches in six games this season. He has caught three touchdowns in two different games this season — and three games overall.

And he is quickly becoming a weapon known across the country.
