Chris Olave adds to impressive list of preseason accolades
Chris Olave is the top returning wide receiver in all of college football. The Ohio State standout is being recognized, also, as one of the best players in the country.
Olave was one of 35 Players To Watch for the Walter Camp Award preseason watch list. The Walter Camp Award has been given annually to the best player in college football since 1967.
Only three Ohio State stars have ever won the award: Archie Griffin won it in 1974 and 1975; Eddie George won it in 1995; and Troy Smith won it in 2006.
Olave, the only Ohio State player on the watch list, is aiming to become the fourth Buckeyes standout to win the award. He is already on the preseason watch list.
The full list of preseason accolades for Olave is impressive. It includes the Walter Camp Player of the Year watch list, Maxwell Award watch list, Biletnikoff Award watch list and the Big Ten Preseason Honors list. He was also named First-Team Preseason All-American by Athlon Sports, The Sporting News, Phil Steele and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Buckeyes freshman defensive back out for year
The freshman debut for Jaylen Johnson will have to wait until next year at Ohio State.
The safety from Cincinnati suffered a torn ACL during his first training camp with the Buckeyes, and he will miss the rest of the season as he starts the recovery process.
The program confirmed the injury for the three-star prospect on Wednesday, a setback just two months into his career with the Buckeyes following his summer arrival on campus.
Johnson wasn’t likely to be much of a contributor right away outside of a shot to potentially help on special teams. But dating back to some summer-camp appearances a couple years ago when his recruitment really caught the attention of the Ohio State coaching staff as a future option to play the Bullet role, Johnson has consistently impressed with his work ethic.

Jaylen Johnson eventually figures to get his chance to show what he can provide defensively with his versatile athleticism for the Buckeyes. But it’s going to have to wait for now.

ICYMI: New Lettermen Live hosted by Roosters
Ohio State is entering a massive, pivotal point of training camp. The Buckeyes will be in full pads for the first time this week.
And Lettermen Live is back at Roosters on Olentangy River Road in Columbus to break it all down.
Lettermen Row senior writer Austin Ward is joined by former Ohio State quarterback Justin Zwick, former Buckeyes signal-caller Cardale Jones, Nicole Cox from Roosters and Lettermen Row Director of Recruiting Jeremy Birmingham. The crew dives into a loaded edition of the show with their surprises of training camp so far. Miyan Williams is taking first-team running back reps for the Buckeyes. Some key defenders are beginning to emerge. They broke it down.
The gang also made sure to analyze the ongoing Ohio State quarterback battle between C.J. Stroud, Jack Miller and Kyle McCord, who are all three making strong cases to be the guy under center this fall. Coach Ryan Day and the rest of the staff will be watching closely as the pads go on to see who looks the best this week.
As always, Lettermen Live is hosted by Roosters on Olentangy River Road in Columbus.
