Buckeyes hoops will face North Carolina in early-season showdown

Ohio State has a tough early-season hoops matchup officially set.

The Buckeyes will play their annual game in the CBS Sports Classic this winter, which will be in Madison Square Garden in New York City in November. Ohio State will face defending national runners-up North Carolina, a program many have projected will be the No. 1 team in the country to open the season. The game will take place Nov. 17.

Chris Holtmann and the Buckeyes have plenty to replace, and they have a bevy of new faces who will need to contribute, including three key transfer players who will need to step in now that Malaki Branham and E.J. Liddell are off to the NBA.

The nonconference slate for the Buckeyes will be tough early. They’ll face North Carolina in mid-November.

ICYMI: Ohio State has offensive tackle options on recruiting trail

Ohio State is quite active on the recruiting trail in the class of 2023. The Buckeyes are looking for offensive tackles to bolster their strong three-man offensive line class so far. Lettermen Row’s Birm has more:

The Buckeyes have three offensive linemen committed but questions about the tackle position haven’t entirely been answered. Luke Montgomery can develop into a tackle — probably on the right side of the offensive line — but the plan for Josh Padilla and Austin Siereveld is to play on the interior of the line.

Finding true tackles is perhaps the summer’s most pivotal recruiting task for Ohio State. Sometimes the best way to know who is a real possibility is to quickly eliminate those who aren’t. The Buckeyes got a helping hand in that regard on Saturday when long-time target Chase Bisontis narrowed his list to five schools and removed Ohio State from contention. Bisontis made multiple spring-time recruiting visits around the country but was never able to get to Columbus. That was probably the death knell in a recruitment that once felt promising.

ICYMI: Noah Rogers sets Ohio State visit, talks Buckeyes, recruiting timeline

The first — and only — visit to Ohio State for Noah Rogers left a great impression on the top-ranked 2023 football prospect in North Carolina.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound receiver had high expectations going into that trip. He told Lettermen Row about those expectations in February at the Under Armor Camp Series stop in Atlanta. Getting to spend more time with Brian Hartline was the most important part of that trip.

The four-star receiver from Rolesville (N.C.) High School talks about those things and more in the latest edition of Birminology from Lettermen Row.
